Research
Research to improve
cardiovascular care.
Clinical questions guide my research, from persistent angina to rare complications of heart attack.
Research alongside clinical care
My research focuses on interventional cardiology, coronary disease and the treatment of people with complex or difficult-to-manage cardiovascular problems. I am an Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at the University of Liverpool.
Post-infarction ventricular septal defect
A ventricular septal defect after a heart attack is a rare but serious complication in which a hole develops between the main pumping chambers of the heart. I led the UK national registry examining surgical and catheter-based treatment, published in the European Heart Journal and presented at TCT as a Late Breaking Clinical Trial.
I have subsequently received British Heart Foundation funding to develop further research in this area.
Coronary disease, angina & hypertension
My other research interests include coronary physiology and microvascular disease, refractory angina and resistant hypertension. I am Principal Investigator for several international clinical trials evaluating treatments for coronary disease, angina and hypertension, and contribute to trial governance and safety oversight.
Publications
My research has been published in cardiovascular journals including the European Heart Journal, JACC and Heart. The selected publications page brings together work across these areas.
