Patient information

Fees and private medical insurance

I aim to provide clear information about the cost of private cardiology care, whether you are paying for your own treatment or using private medical insurance.

Self-pay consultation fees

AppointmentMy professional fee
Initial consultation£250
Complex angina consultation or specialist second opinion£300
Follow-up consultation£150

The standard initial consultation is suitable for most new patients.

A more detailed review may be appropriate for patients with persistent angina, difficult-to-explain chest pain or extensive previous investigations and treatments. These appointments are charged at £300, with the applicable fee confirmed before booking.

My consultation fees include reviewing relevant medical records and investigations, the consultation itself, and preparing a written report for you and your GP.

Additional clinic charges

There is no separate hospital facility charge for consultations. However, for self-funding patients, the Rowan Suite charges a one-off registration fee of £50 for new patients, in addition to my consultation fee.

For a self-funding patient attending the Rowan Suite for the first time, the expected costs are:

AppointmentTotal including registration
Standard initial consultation£300
Complex angina consultation or specialist second opinion£350

Additional investigations, such as ECGs or blood tests, may incur separate charges payable on the day of your appointment.

Any recommended investigations and their associated charges will be discussed with you before they are undertaken.

Coronary investigations and procedures

The following are my professional fees for self-funding patients:

ProcedureConsultant fee
Diagnostic coronary angiography, including additional invasive assessment such as pressure wire or intravascular ultrasound where appropriate£1,000
Percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI / coronary angioplasty and stenting)£1,250–£1,750

The fee for PCI depends on the complexity of the procedure.

These figures represent my professional fees only, not the total cost of the procedure.

Hospital charges for catheter laboratory facilities and time, equipment, stents, specialist consumables and other procedural costs are additional.

These charges are set by the hospital, independently of my professional fees, and may vary depending on the procedure and equipment required.

Before proceeding, I will explain my professional fee and how the additional hospital costs can be established.

Specialist investigations and treatments

I also provide specialist assessment and treatment for patients with complex coronary conditions, including persistent angina despite previous investigations or treatment.

These services may include invasive coronary function testing, assessment of the coronary microcirculation, coronary vasoreactivity testing, and selected treatments such as coronary sinus reducer implantation or renal denervation.

These procedures require individual clinical assessment, and their availability and funding arrangements vary. Fees are discussed on an individual basis.

Private medical insurance

I am recognised by most major UK private medical insurers, including:

  • Bupa
  • AXA Health (formerly AXA PPP)
  • Aviva
  • Vitality
  • Saga

If you intend to use private medical insurance, please contact your insurer before booking to confirm your cover and obtain any necessary pre-authorisation.

Your insurer may require a formal referral from your GP or another specialist before approving a consultation or investigation. Although I do not require a referral to see you privately, your insurer may make this a condition of funding your care.

Some policies include an excess, limits on reimbursement or exclusions for particular investigations and treatments. Recognition by an insurer does not automatically guarantee that every service will be covered.

The Rowan Suite can advise on the administrative and billing arrangements for insured patients, including any additional charges that may apply.

Self-funding your care

You do not need private medical insurance or a formal referral to request a private consultation.

If further investigations or treatment are recommended, I will explain why they may be helpful and discuss the available options.

My professional fees will be confirmed before proceeding. Where hospital services are required, the hospital will provide information about its separate charges.

My priority is to ensure that you can make an informed decision about your care, including understanding the likely costs involved.
